Meet The Directors

Dave Carter – Chief Executive Officer, Head of School Improvement

Dave has been Headteacher of St Philip Howard Catholic School (SPH) for 8 years, taking the school from a position where it was placed in the bottom 25% nationally for progress to the position of top 5% nationally within 2 years. Graded as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted (April 2016) and designated as a National Support School (October 2016), SPH has helped a number of schools locally improve outcomes. Dave is a National Leader in Education, undertakes pupil premium reviews as well as providing the leadership capacity to enable SPH to second staff to support other schools in need.

Jill Alcorn – Chief Finance Officer

Jill is currently Executive School Business Manager at St Philip Howard School. Her career began in banking before then taking a role in school, working as a Business Manager, initially in Primary phase and subsequently as a Secondary SBM. Jill has been SBM at SPH for 9 years. She has always been able to set balanced budgets and used limited resources well to significantly improve learning and teaching in school, having a direct impact on student outcomes.

Tim Feast – Chair of Board of Directors - Health and Safety Link Trustee

Tim has been involved with school improvement and governance for over 30 years, most recently as Head of Secondary Standards for a Local Education Authority. He works with a number of outstanding Catholic schools and is delighted to bring his experience and expertise to the Bosco Catholic Education Trust.

Fergus Brotherton – Finance and Premises Director

Fergus has considerable experience of strategic level working for the Diocese in his former role as Financial Secretary (1986-2015). He has experience of charity accounts and was originally a civil/structural engineer, enabling him to contribute to building works and property management. His responsibilities as Financial Secretary for the Diocese included administering the Diocesan and parish accounts, trusts, investments, banking, payroll, personnel, insurances, some school and parish projects, property management and transactions, legal matters, tax reclaims, parish assessments, parish administration manual, civil law compliance and health & safety.

Patrick Burgess, OBE – Legal & Governance Director

Currently Chairman of Intu Properties plc. a large company, listed on the London Stock Exchange and part of the FTSE100. Patrick trained as a lawyer and became Partner of a City firm of solicitors. Experience in constitutional or corporate governance, corporate charity and trust law, and financial experience which goes with all those involvements. Patrick has been Chancellor of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and is currently acting as the senior person in the Venerable Order of St John, reorganising the governance of that entity, which is an Order of the Crown. Patrick has also been High Sheriff of West Sussex.

Anthony Moffatt – Safeguarding Link Trustee

Anthony has been involved with school governance for over 20 yrs, all three children have been through Catholic schools and on to university. Anthony has lead schools to outstanding and significant improvement, as he is passionate in ensuring pupils in schools achieve their potential. Anthony has supported the development of MAT structures and brings this expertise to Bosco.

Fr Daryl George - Catholic Ethos Director

During 28 years of ordained priesthood, Fr Daryl has a great deal of experience of Catholic schools in the role of either chaplain or governor. Fr Daryl was part of the steering group, charged with the responsibility of forming the Bosco Catholic Education Trust. He has a licentiate degree in Canon Law and has a very good grasp of the Catholic Church’s law concerning Catholic Education. Fr Daryl has been involved in school appeals, appointing headteachers and other senior leaders, commissioning school support and bringing additional funding into schools.

Deacon Adrian Burnett

Dcn Adrian has was Ordained in 2012, and is currently Deacon to Littlehampton and Rustington Parishes. Dcn Adrian has been involved in School Governance for nearly twenty years, serving on the Governing Bodies of four schools. He currently works for the NHS as the Head of Digital Business Management at a Trust in Surrey, which means that he brings a great deal of experience in Financial, Human Resources Procurement and Governance to the Trust Board.

Chris George

With 25 years’ experience in the construction industry and having previously been joint Chair of Governors at a West Sussex school, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge in building refurbishment and new build programmes. As a father of three pupils at St Phillip Howard Catholic Secondary School, he has seen first-hand the journey that pupils make through a Bosco school and is passionate about maintaining and enhancing the experience for more children.

April Hanks

April has worked as a School Business Manager at a local Catholic Primary School as well as having been a Governor over a period of 8 years. This has been a very rewarding experience and she is looking forward to using this experience to be able to work towards the development of so many students now and in the future. She hopes to be able to work with the Trust team to grow and develop the Trust to maintain and develop progress through the joint Catholic ethos and education system. April has a range of experience in different sectors alongside education and hopes that this range of skills will enable her to grow and deliver the very best Catholic education for our children.
